Crowns & Bridges ▸

Dental Bridge Walnut Creek, CA

In years past, missing teeth were commonly seen as people became older. It altered their look, their speech, and their diet. Today, people are living longer, healthier lives, and they want their teeth to make the journey with them. At Dental Implant Center at Walnut Creek, we agree, we want your teeth to have the same longevity as you. If you have lost teeth, we can protect your neighboring teeth while improving your look and ability to eat your regular diet with the placement of a dental bridge.

A dental bridge is recommended to replace one or multiple missing teeth. It is cemented into place, making it non-removable. Dental bridge is similar to a crown in materials used and look, except that they are used to replace missing teeth using two healthy teeth or implant posts to serve as anchors with the false teeth in the middle. A bridge may also be used to strengthen or splint teeth which are weakened by periodontal disease and bone loss. Patients wear dental bridges to:

•  Replace a Missing Tooth: Missing teeth is problematic. There will be noticeable immediate changes and long term changes that you may not realize come from the missing tooth. We can prevent those problems with a dental bridge.
•  Improve Facial Shape: One problem that comes from missing teeth is changed in your facial shape. Missing teeth includes bone loss in the jaw, causing the facial structure to become sunken and smaller in appearance, this is often associated with looking older.
•  Prevent Shifting: Missing teeth leaves space for neighboring teeth to shift out of control. As they move, this can cause changes in your bite, sometimes resulting in TMJ dysfunction which can be troublesome or even painful.
•  Improve ability to chew: Missing teeth can make some foods more difficult to chew. You may not notice immediately, but many patients start slowly eliminating foods from their diet, or they may only chew on the other side of their mouth. Both of these changes can be problematic to your health, either physical health or oral health.
•  Improve ability to Speak: Missing teeth can result in changes to your speech. You may have difficulty in saying certain sounds or develop a whistle, or another form of breathiness to your speech.

Fabricated in a laboratory, single crowns and bridges are custom made and created to fit into your dentition. We offer custom shading and shaping of your new teeth in our laboratory to offer you the most natural appearing restorations possible! With your new customized dental bridge ready, you will then be contacted to schedule an appointment for proper fitting. During your fitting, Dr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs will check your dental bridge, how it fits, and then make any adjustments, once the fit is perfect, we will then cement or bond your new dental bridge into place, where it should solidly stay. We will continue to check the appliances status and the strength of its bond during your checkups.

Porcelain Veneers ▸

Teeth Veneers Walnut Creek, CA

Porcelain Veneers in Walnut Creek, CA We can improve your smile, giving you the look you want, quickly and easily with the placement of porcelain veneers. Dr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs can cover your front teeth with thin porcelain shell manipulating your teeths size, shape, and color with a thin porcelain shell. Our team at Dental Implant Center at Walnut Creek can make a difference in as little as two office visits, giving your smile an entirely new, upgraded look.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs can dramatically improve the position, size, color and shape of your teeth in a natural and easy way. Veneers are fingernail-thin, porcelain laminates that are applied to the front side of the teeth. Metal-free, porcelain laminates maintain the natural translucency and vitality of your teeth. Unlike crowns, veneers don't necessarily require the removal of too much tooth structure. These beautiful restorations are fabricated in a dental laboratory and will give you a fresh new look.

What Veneers Can Do

We are able to place dental veneers on the front eight teeth that are most visible - four on top, four on bottom. These are some of the ways veneers can give you a new look:
•  We can give your front teeth the appearance of being straighter.
•  We can fill in gaps between your front teeth.
•  We can give your teeth the appearance of being even.
•  We can help teeth look longer, or shorter, for patients who have unusually long or short front teeth.
•  We can cover teeth that have been chipped or fractured.
•  We can cover teeth that have been permanently stained due to fluorosis.
•  We can cover teeth that have a dirty or dingy appearance from years of coffee drinking or smoking.

How We Place Veneers

Customized porcelain veneers can be created for you in just two appointments. Dr. Keith or Dr. Gibbs will begin with discussing and evaluating your needs. They will then be able to make recommendations including the placement of dental veneers. We will take a mold or impression which will then be sent to a dental lab.

Once we have received your veneers, we will meet to properly fit your veneers. Your placement will begin with reducing the front surface of your tooth to better fit your veneer. A portion of your front tooth will need to be removed, as may some of the sides or the crown. We will also need to etch, most likely using an acid wash, to create a roughened surface to allow for better adhesion. Your veneer is then cemented into place. The hold will be strong and durable, lasting most patients, if properly cared for, at least two years, if not longer. We will check the status of your veneers at each checkup.

Dentures & Partials ▸

Dentures & Partials Walnut Creek, CA

Complete Dentures

Dentures & Partials in Walnut Creek, CAWe can restore missing teeth with the placement of customized partial and full dentures, improving your bite, your function, and your aesthetics. At Dental Implant Center at Walnut Creek, Dr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs, will evaluate your oral cavity, discuss your needs, and review your options with you before making recommendations in restoring your bite. We can place partial or complete dentures with or without implant retention.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures replace all of the missing teeth in the upper and/or lower jaws. With complete dentures, our goal is to provide a pleasing, natural appearance as well as restoring the patient's ability to eat and speak. Full dentures are not known for their comfort, but they can provide considerable relief when the patient no longer has healthy teeth. We will discuss various retention options with the patient, and if placing implant posts is an option, this can significantly increase the patient's overall happiness.

Without your natural teeth, the bone in the jaws reduces greatly, and continues to resorb over a lifetime. This brings changes to a person's appearance as well as to the fit of their dental prosthesis. Long-time denture wearers experience loosening of their dentures as the jaw loses its bone mass.

To slow down or prevent this bone loss, we can try to save some tooth roots or place a few dental implants to fabricate an "overdenture." An overdenture looks like a complete denture but it has some support underneath it that will preserve bone mass and may even increase denture stability!

Removable Partial Dentures

Dentures Lab Mold iStock 000052938150 Large width of 500 pixelsRemovable partial dentures replace some, but not all, of the teeth in a dental arch. They are made of a cobalt-chrome metal framework to which artificial teeth are attached. The prostheses vary in design depending on the number of teeth to be replaced, and are customized for the patient. Removable partial dentures can be combined with crowns to create prosthesis with precision attachments that show no clasps.

Partial dentures are less costly and are less comfortable than a non-removable solution such as bridges or dental implants. However, in certain situations, often medical related, they may be the only solution to increase function and will provide patients an esthetic result that increases their happiness. We are happy to review your options with you, and help you get the look and function that work best for you.

Dental implants can be used to stabilize partial dentures until the remaining teeth need to be replaced with additional implants. Dr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs will evaluate your status and discuss this with you.

Full Mouth Reconstruction ▸

Full Mouth Reconstruction Walnut Creek, CA

Full Mouth Reconstruction in Walnut Creek, CAA full mouth reconstruction consists of making multiple dental restorations using a combination of techniques. Our dentists, Dr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs, can help. As specialized prosthodontists, they are board-certified through the American Board of Prosthodontics to provide you excellent care in restoring your missing teeth, and reconstructing your entire oral cavity, providing beauty and function.

When a patient has several missing teeth or is experiencing severe deterioration of most of their teeth, our team at Dental Implant Center at Walnut Creek can create a treatment plan using a combination of crowns, bridges, and dental implants to reconstruct their teeth and bring their oral health back to health.

How Did This Kind of Damage Happen?

The oral cavity is a dynamic entity in which changes take place, sometimes quickly but more often slowly over time. Damage that has been done from years before can take its toll. Missing teeth can seem fine, but then your remaining teeth may shift and cause your bite to be disrupted, or you may begin to experience jaw pain or even migraines. Gum disease may worsen to a level of chronic periodontitis, causing teeth to feel loose in your mouth, shift and eventually fall out. Old root canals that were never crowned can become brittle, fracture and break. The wear and tear we have done to our teeth over the years eventually show significant damage. One day, you may wake up and look in the mirror and wonder, "How did my mouth ever come to look like this?"

Whether it is from a traumatic impact injury, periodontal disease, shifting teeth, a lifetime of neglect, destructive unconscious grinding or clenching, or just a lifetime of multiple dental procedures done, comprehensive treatment may be the answer.

What Can Be Done to Help Restore My Teeth?

Most dental restorations are done with prosthetics, meaning outside devices or structures that are designed for your use. We use these devices to restore mastication, or chewing, improve patient's aesthetics, and aid in speech and comfort. These devices include:
•  Dental Crowns: Used to cover weakened or fractured teeth, crowns act as a shield for a tooth, protecting the original structure while restoring its function.
•  Dental Bridges: We can place false teeth in empty spaces by creating a bridge with healthy teeth or implants to secure the prosthetic.
•  Tooth Implants: Implants have rapidly become the preferred way to replace missing teeth. We can replace one or even all of your teeth in varying ways using dental implants.
•  Partial and Full Dentures: We can design the best plan of treatment for you, based on your needs, including full dentures.

It may be time to consider your oral health as a whole and seek comprehensive treatment. Coming to a prosthodontist means that you are seeking the care of experts in managing the increased complexity of multiple tooth treatments.

General Dentistry ▸

General Dentistry Walnut Creek, CA

General Dentistry in Walnut Creek, CADr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs are certified prosthodontists. They have been serving the Bay Area community for several years. Besides their work in creating prostheses, they also pride themselves on performing excellent services in general dentistry. You can expect outstanding general dental care all under one roof.

If you have had a dental device created through our office, we would love to continue seeing you for all of your regular checkups, as well as new patients.

Some of the general dentistry procedures we offer include:

By scheduling regular dental examinations, we can help detect and prevent dental health issues before they become serious. Don't ignore small issues, they will only become bigger ones. We realize that adulthood is busy, and often chaotic, but if dental issues are left unattended, they will never simply go away, but will continue to worsen and require more extensive and expensive procedures that require more time in the chair to repair. Your dental exam will include:
•  A visual inspection to assess tooth decay.
•  Measurement of your gum pocket depths and evaluation for gum disease.
•  Review of x-rays for signs of hidden decay, cysts, growths, or anything out of the ordinary.
•  Screening for oral cancer in the entire oral cavity and neck.

Dental Cleanings

You perform daily tasks for your oral health, including brushing, flossing, mouthwash, and even drinking water. Just as important as those daily tasks is scheduling professional dental cleanings with a hygienist. At your dental cleaning, our hygienist will use specialized tools and training to remove:
•  Plaque that is in nooks and crannies that can be easily missed.
•  Any dried plaque, known as tartar or calculus, from your teeth.
•  Any surface stains that have accumulated from normal use through polishing.

In some situations, our hygienist may decide that a more involved cleaning, using a process of scaling and root planing is necessary. This is known as a deep cleaning, and can eliminate bacteria that is causing irritation to your gums, known as gingivitis. Gingivitis is an early form of gum disease, we will want to review your history and any past periodontal treatments you may have had.

Dental fillings are a very common dental restoration. When we have found decay, known as caries, we will remove the decay and fill the cavity with composite or amalgam filling material. Fillings are performed to restore teeth with small to medium sized cavities, or we can also use the filling material to restore chipped front teeth.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are a customized barrier that we create to restore teeth that have suffered from cavities and are in need of large fillings. Inlays and onlays are larger than regular fillings and are created to cover over the cusps of a single or multiple teeth to prevent tooth fracture. They are usually fabricated from porcelain, composite resin, or gold. Inlays and onlays can protect the damaged portion of the tooth while still exposing the natural teeth, unlike crowns which cover the entire tooth.

Gum Disease

Known in dentistry as periodontal disease, gum disease is an infection of the soft tissues that surround and support your teeth. The infection was caused by the bacteria found in plaque and tartar that was able to come into contact with your gums. Chronic periodontitis can lead to the loss of the tissue and bone that support your teeth and it may become more severe over time.

Before we place dental implants, it is imperative that your gums be healthy. Scheduling regular dental checkups, along with having a good oral hygiene routine will help your gums be healthy.

Teeth Whitening

Whitening your teeth is one of the easiest cosmetic procedures that you can do that will have the most noticeable visual impact. Whitening your teeth can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile. This non-invasive and simple dental treatment will alter the color of your enamel to make your smile look whiter and brighter. We have both in office and at home options available.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition that affects how you breathe while sleeping. If your breathing is interrupted for 10 seconds or more multiple times during your night, you will want to seek treatment, the long term effects can be dangerous. Untreated sleep apnea prevents you from getting the deep, restorative sleep your body requires.

In most situations, a partner is the first to recognize the signs of sleep apnea, but if you think you may have it, we can help identify and diagnose the severity of the sleep apnea and discuss the best treatment options for your unique situation.
