General Dentistry in Walnut Creek, CA

Beautiful smiling woman with a bright smile after general dentistry services from the Dental Implant Center at Walnut Creek in Walnut Creek, CADr. Keith and Dr. Gibbs are certified prosthodontists. They have been serving the Bay Area community for several years. Besides their work in creating prostheses, they also pride themselves on performing excellent services in general dentistry. You can expect outstanding general dental care all under one roof.

If you have had a dental device created through our office, we would love to continue seeing you for all of your regular checkups, as well as new patients.

Some of the general dentistry procedures we offer include:

Exams

By scheduling regular dental examinations, we can help detect and prevent dental health issues before they become serious. Don't ignore small issues, they will only become bigger ones. We realize that adulthood is busy, and often chaotic, but if dental issues are left unattended, they will never simply go away, but will continue to worsen and require more extensive and expensive procedures that require more time in the chair to repair. Your dental exam will include:
•  A visual inspection to assess tooth decay.
•  Measurement of your gum pocket depths and evaluation for gum disease.
•  Review of x-rays for signs of hidden decay, cysts, growths, or anything out of the ordinary.
•  Screening for oral cancer in the entire oral cavity and neck.

Dental Cleanings

You perform daily tasks for your oral health, including brushing, flossing, mouthwash, and even drinking water. Just as important as those daily tasks is scheduling professional dental cleanings with a hygienist. At your dental cleaning, our hygienist will use specialized tools and training to remove:
•  Plaque that is in nooks and crannies that can be easily missed.
•  Any dried plaque, known as tartar or calculus, from your teeth.
•  Any surface stains that have accumulated from normal use through polishing.

In some situations, our hygienist may decide that a more involved cleaning, using a process of scaling and root planing is necessary. This is known as a deep cleaning, and can eliminate bacteria that is causing irritation to your gums, known as gingivitis. Gingivitis is an early form of gum disease, we will want to review your history and any past periodontal treatments you may have had.

Fillings

Dental fillings are a very common dental restoration. When we have found decay, known as caries, we will remove the decay and fill the cavity with composite or amalgam filling material. Fillings are performed to restore teeth with small to medium sized cavities, or we can also use the filling material to restore chipped front teeth.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are a customized barrier that we create to restore teeth that have suffered from cavities and are in need of large fillings. Inlays and onlays are larger than regular fillings and are created to cover over the cusps of a single or multiple teeth to prevent tooth fracture. They are usually fabricated from porcelain, composite resin, or gold. Inlays and onlays can protect the damaged portion of the tooth while still exposing the natural teeth, unlike crowns which cover the entire tooth.

Gum Disease

Known in dentistry as periodontal disease, gum disease is an infection of the soft tissues that surround and support your teeth. The infection was caused by the bacteria found in plaque and tartar that was able to come into contact with your gums. Chronic periodontitis can lead to the loss of the tissue and bone that support your teeth and it may become more severe over time.

Before we place dental implants, it is imperative that your gums be healthy. Scheduling regular dental checkups, along with having a good oral hygiene routine will help your gums be healthy.

Teeth Whitening

Whitening your teeth is one of the easiest cosmetic procedures that you can do that will have the most noticeable visual impact. Whitening your teeth can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile. This non-invasive and simple dental treatment will alter the color of your enamel to make your smile look whiter and brighter. We have both in office and at home options available.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition that affects how you breathe while sleeping. If your breathing is interrupted for 10 seconds or more multiple times during your night, you will want to seek treatment, the long term effects can be dangerous. Untreated sleep apnea prevents you from getting the deep, restorative sleep your body requires.

In most situations, a partner is the first to recognize the signs of sleep apnea, but if you think you may have it, we can help identify and diagnose the severity of the sleep apnea and discuss the best treatment options for your unique situation.
